Living on a farm opens up a wide array of gardening options, that's for
sure. But it's not without it's problems either. Here in Tennessee, the
soil is rock hard. In fact, it's mostly clay and lots of rocks of
varying sizes. So it was my choice to plant my vegetable garden in
raised beds and I found it most convenient to do the Square Foot
Gardening method. I started out with nine 4x4 raised garden
beds.
But the chickens and guineas got to almost all of it before I could,
and they worked though every barrier I put up.
I eventually enclosed all those boxes in a framwork of six foot high
chicken wire and 4x4s and 2x4s, which protected everything from
chickens, guineas, rabbits and raccoons. I also added a row of garden
boxes.
