Nubian
goats are the Jersey's of the goat world and produce delicious
high-cream content milk, though they produce less milk in volume than
the other milk goat breeds.
They're
tall, graceful goats with a roman nose and long pedulous ears. The
mature doe can reach about 30 inches and 135 pounds, and the buck about
36 inches and 175 pounds. They're tall and slender, and a bit bony, as
most dairy animals are. A healthy goat has a shiny coat and bright,
alert eyes. Nubian goats do have horns, however, they are usually
removed within seven days after birth.
They
are curious, friendly animals, and like attention - which make them
ideal for people like me who like to shower their animals with a lot of
affection 0:) I have heard that the males, or "billies" are
very
mean. However, I haven't had this experience. My bucks are actually
very sweet.
A
goat's gestation is approximately five months, and each doe can have
anywhere from one to three kids for each pregnancy - which means, one
can have quite a sizeable herd in a year with only a few does to start
with.
A few of my girls are bred, with the earliest due approximately in the
middle of March 2009. Please email
us to be put on a kidding list. |
